. The current version of Firefox Browser includes the Google Toolbar. Google has always been the default search engine incorporated in the line of Mozilla browsers, and this toolbar extends the search functions and adds features.

If you are a first time Firefox user, and have been using Internet Explorer as your default browser, Firefox will offer to import your Favorites, which it calls "Bookmarks," and all of your saved Cookies. Allow these items to be imported to create a seamless switch-over. You won't lose anything from Internet Explorer, as these things are copied, not moved. When Firefox is about to launch it will popup a box asking if you want it to become your Default Browser. If you choose "Yes" all Internet links will now open in a tab in Firefox, instead of Internet Explorer.

Firefox uses tabbed browing which means that new links can open in a new tab inside the one master browser window, instead of opening a new window, or replacing the contents of the existing one. simply right-click on any hyperlink on a web page and select "Open link in new tab." When multiple tabs are open they can be moved left or right by dragging them with your pointer. This allows you to group tabs by common theme. Click on any tab to view it's contents. Click on the red X on the right end of the tab bar to close the current tab, which is the same as closing a browser. Consult the Help file for full instructions.

After you start browsing with Firefox you will probably stop using Internet Explorer. However, if you have been obtaining Windows Updates manually you will have to use Internet Explorer to check for and download patches or optional components. Windows and Microsoft Updates use ActiveX, which is not supported in Firefox. That is one reason why Firefox is more secure then Internet Explorer. Many of the spyware and adware threats in the wild can only install via insecure Internet Explorer browsers, and have no effect when a Firefox user visits those sites. Caution is still needed to protect yourself from being tricked into manually installing a hostile program or "extension."
