Most PC owners who have had computers for more than a couple of years are familiar with the ZoneAlarm Personal Firewall. While UDP traffic will annoy and possibly trick you into buying a fake security program, hostile TCP packets could in fact allow a hacker to take over control of your PC! Since the release of the infamous MS Blaster Worm, on Aug 11, 2003, there has been a steady stream of TCP-borne Worms and Backdoors propagating across the wires of the Internet. The result of being exploited by today's TCP Worms is usually having your PC drafted into a spammer's Botnet.

The latest Internet Worm using TCP to infect un-firewalled PCs is the recently reborn "Mytob," a.k.a. "MyDoom" Worm (originally seen in January 2004). These Worms have now been upgraded to force infected computers into a Botnet, where they will be used to blast out thousands of spam messages per day, and possibly to attack other computers, or websites, or governments that the Bot Master disagrees with.
