Fix Serial Number in Acronis True Image

Fix for serial number not taking in Acronis 2009 backup programs

The problem: You paid for Acronis True Image Home, or another Acronis program of series 2009, and received a serial number. You typed or pasted in the serial number and the product was registered and worked, You closed the program, or rebooted and the next time you opened True Image 2009 the title bar says it is not registered and is in a 15 day trial period (which when it ends stops the program from working). No matter how many times you enter the serial number it does not "take."

What caused this: The problem occured because a time-limited serial number was sent to some customers, instead of the full version numbers. Acronis has provided a system to generate new, valid serial numbers for paying customers affected by this glitch, as outlined below.

  1. First, go to the Acronis Technical Support contact page and file a request for assistance, listing your exact problem and other required information.
  2. Log in your account at https://www.acronis.com/my/
  3. Open this link. http://www.acronis.com/my/products/exchange/
  4. In the Serial number field enter the defective serial number. A new full serial number will be issued and automatically registered to your account;
  5. Download Acronis Registration Update utility: http://download.acronis.com/support/SN_exchange.exe
  6. Run the downloaded file. Select the product that stopped working properly
  7. Submit the new serial number to the corresponding field (8 x 8 characters - use Ctrl+V to paste it in). The registration information about the product will be updated in the system. The product will be recovered to fully functional state.
  8. If the new number still does not take, even after rebooting, you should uninstall and reinstall ATI 2010, with the new S/N (remember to use Ctrl+V to paste it in)
  9. Another cause of a failure to stay registered might be insufficiant user privileges to write to the Local Machine branch of the Windows Registry, where the Acronis 'serial number' is stored. I have written a lengthly article about Access Denied errors while upgrading and how to resolve them.
  10. Acronis also provides a live chat support feature and may be able to resolve you product registration issues via a two-way chat.
  11. I also recommend that you check to see if you have the latest build of your registered Acronis products. Occasionally, interim builds are released that fix various bugs that have been reported. These incremental updates are free to registered users.
  12. The final build of Acronis True Image Home 2009 is build # 9796, which was released on June 30, 2009. In addition to now being Windows Vista Certified, it features upgrades and changes to the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and Acronis Secure Zone features. The new build now supports custom backups of ICQ and Opera and fixes 3 major reported problems. The release notes are here.
  13. Acronis True Image 2010 has now been released and development on previous versions has halted. Please consider upgrading to the current version at a significantly discounted price.
  14. You can learn more about the new features in Acronis True Image 2010 on this page.
